June 17thBeverly Hills Golden Triangle's New Addition Back in January I mentioned that Evan Funke is opening a new restaurant on Santa Monica Blvd and Canon. Well..... it's now open and serving customers on all three floors. I'm including a casual place this article as I think it is worthy of the recognition and is very accessible whether that is by walk-in or reservation.NewsletterVolume #1june 17th | bhnewsletter.com | 818.268.0046 Funke LAEvan Funke finally opened it's new restaurant in Beverly Hills and it is packed to the brim! With over two floors of dining space and the third being a rooftop with a bar makes this an easy choice when looking for a place to go. Yes, it's Italian but very different from his other two restaurants which are Felix and Mother wolf. I actually commend anyone who not only sticks to their craft but are also able to create a different ambiance in each venue. Evan mentions that running a restaurant is more than just good food and wine. His goal is to tell a story and transport the customer to a different world. I agree with this approach because at the end of the day it is LA. Competition is big and having a way to stand out is key. Whether that is food, cars, makeup, clothes, etc. It has come to a point where the story sells the product. People like buying and indulging themselves in a story and history.Zinque If you are a fan of Euro style cafe's then Zinque is the perfect place for you. I'm sure you've heard of it or seen it driving along Melrose. This is a perfect place to go when you want good food without the fuss. It is an easy choice due to many factors. All their locations have tuned in this theme, that European casual dining aesthetic. Being a wine fanatic of course this is an easy choice for me as they are technically considered a wine bar too! They have a great selection of wine by the glass and an array of cocktails such as an Aperol Spritz or a classic apéritif like a Negroni. If you happen to be a fan of happy hour then this is definitely a must for you to visit. Monday thru Friday 4-6pm with wines being priced at $10 a glass and little bites starting at $6 this place is a no brainer and caters to every occasion. My personal favorite is the steak frites, their version of the roman pizza with a glass of chablis.“Food is symbolic of love when words are inadequate.” -Alan D WolfeltWine of the Week“A meal without wine is called breakfast”– UnknownMoussé Fils, Champagne Blanc de Noir Here is a great champagne for under $60 that is worth every penny. It does drink a bit bold and has a stronger finish but this is what I call a grower wine. Everything is done on the estate. Estate grown, harvested and made. This is how it should be. Average price is $55 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, ARTEMIS Cab. Not to get this confused with Satgs' Leap, the apostophe matters here folks. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars has been making world class cabernet since the 70's. You can't go wrong with this bottle! Average Price is $85 Pursued by Bear, Cabernet Sauvignon This is another heavy hitter California Cabernet which I think deserves great recognition. This ranks top 25 Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon wines right now. Washington State style wine done the right way in Colombia Valley.
